Capreol has a very strong tradition of softball dating back to the women's victory in the 1925 Northern Ontario Championships. Since then, Capreol's ball teams have made many strong showings at various competitions.
The women's team was not the only one to perform successfully. In 1948, Capreol's men's softball team, the Del Papa's, won the Senior Men's Mercantile Softball League Championships. In those days, only the catcher and the first baseman were permitted to wear gloves; everyone else played bare-handed.
The 1948 victory sparked an amazing string of wins for Capreol. For many years, Capreol was victorious in the Sudbury District Senior Men's League, winning the Ontario Intermediate 'C' championships in 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1965, 1967, and 1969. The team also won the Ontario Intermediate 'B' championships in 1978. This record was unmatched by any other softball club in all of Ontario.
While the entire team contributed to the numerous victories enjoyed by the club, Bill Ouellet and Ezio "The Crow" Bevilacqua were the stars of the team.
Today, softball continues to be a popular sport in Capreol. While Capreol is home to a mixed slo-pitch league, many individuals will often get together to enjoy a fun game of baseball on one of the diamonds at Centennial Athletic Field.
