Arvi Makinen

Arvi Makinen purchased a lot of land on the north side of Long Lake on September 29, 1913.  Along with his wife Anna, daughter Aino, and sons Arvi Jr., Arne, and Aimo, Makinen operated a dairy farm and shipped the milk to the Co-Operative Dairy in Sudbury.

The Makinen family also operated the first summer resort known as Sunnyside Beach.  The resort offered many summertime pleasures and refreshments.

The family was very active in the community and were one of the originators of the Farmers Hall (now known as the Voima Club).  They helped to organize many athletic events and galas.

Sunnyside Road was later named for the Makinen resort.
